Strong Museum National Museum of Play will be opening a new permanent exhibit on October 17 & 18, 2009 entitled American Comic Book Heroes: The Battle of Good vs. Evil. "Meet Spider-Man 'in person,' watch real comic-book artists create super worlds, explore the history of comic-book heroes, make your own cape, and more." Ken Wheaton told me at Fan Expo in Toronto that he will be one of the local artists present.

I'm thinking we might try to do this one on Sunday.
There's a tentative RL event on Saturday.

Isn't that in Buffalo?

Actually, I'm thinking about the feasibility of going to both the Strong Museum exhibit and Canandaigua Comic Con on Sunday, since the next SW minis gaming is on that Saturday.

Right it's the one in Buffalo, but it is early in the morning so I suppose we could potentially check out the museum in the afternoon.

And, now I have an Astronomicon meeting smack dab in the middle of Sunday so that day is sort of shot. Sad

While talking to the folks at Strong about the Star Wars program, I asked who they got for their Spider-Man (I was hoping it wouldn't be one of their employees in a Halloween costume). They actually hired someone through Marvel that will be coming up from NYC and is trained to act like Spider-Man. So it should be very cool for the kids to meet him.

That sounds cool. I've rarely known the Strong Museum to skimp on much for events even years ago before they were The National Museum of Play and my first-grade class went on a field trip to the museum while I was student teaching. They try to do the best they can with the money they have, so an event may be small but well done. Last year on Father's Day they brought in 2 well-known artists sketching downstairs, but their comic book collectibles exhibit upstairs was very small, 1 large case only and hard to find.
